About the Peacock
My earliest memory seeing peacocks was at the beautiful Cataract Gorge in Launceston. The boys (peacocks) attempt to impress the girls (peahens) by displaying their remarkably designed plumage. In the wild, they tend to live to 20, but in zoos their lifespan reaches to 40. They're omnivores and eat a variety of food including plants, seeds, frogs and mice. They're even known to capture and eat poisonous snakes!
